The Lady Cougars won 2-1 over the Lady Patriots, and scored both of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.<br /><br />Pitcher Danielle Danek got the win for the night with 11 strikeouts and Taylor Core gets credit for the save.<br /><br />Kristin Acrey had two doubles to center field to lead the team in hits.<br /><br />Each team had four hits on the night.<br /><br />The first run of the night was scored in the top of the third inning by the Lady Patriots after Abby Bogie doubled to center and tagged up two batters later to earn the team’s first run, and take a 1-0 lead.<br /><br />Going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Crosby coach Karen Tallant told her team, “It’s now or never.”<br /><br />That’s where the Lady Cougars came alive.<br /><br />Becky Guillory singled, then stole second before Reneshia Shepherd’s single brought Guillory home to tie the game up 1-1.<br /><br />A double from <span style="font-weight: bold;">Hayley Alexander</span> brought Shepherd home to take the 2-1 lead.<br /><br />“That was a big hit by <span style="font-weight: bold;">Hayley</span>” Tallant said. “She was getting impatient and I think she was due a big play like that.”<br /><br />As for waiting until the last inning to score, Tallant said that’s nothing she hasn’t seen from her team before.<br /><br />“We did that same exact thing Friday against Kingwood Park,” she said.<br /><br />The Lady Cougars stand in first place in district 19-4A with an overall record of 14-3 and a district record of 7-0 and the Lady Patriots now hold a record of 4-3 in district play.<br /><br />“This was a big win and we knew it was going to be a tough game,” Tallant said. “We can’t let anybody sneak up on us, but whenever you’re in first place, everybody wants to beat you so they can say they took down the top dog. We just have to find ways to scratch in some wins.<br />____________________________________________________<br /><br />The No. 25 state-ranked Magnolia Lady Bulldogs had all things working Tuesday night in a 13-0, five-inning run rule home victory over Waller.<br /><br />Magnolia, 6-2 in 18-4A, got a strong effort on the mound from winning pitcher<br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Katy Adair</span> who went all five innings, striking out 10 and walking one. Jill Loukanis took the loss for Waller (0-8 in district).<br /><br />At the plate Ariel Hovis had a big night, going 3 for 3 with a solo homer, her first of the season, two doubles and five RBI. Also for the Lady Bulldogs, Victoria Birdwell was 2 for 3 with a double, Courtney Kuehn was 1 for 3 with a double, Reggie Harrison was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Adair </span>was 2 for 4 with an RBI,<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Kassi Mushinski</span> was 1 for 3 with a triple and two RBI, Kaci Hoskins was 1 for 2 and Kendra Sancet 1 for 2 with a double.<br /><br />Magnolia plays again Thursday at Willis at 7 p.m.<br />___________________________________________________________<br /><br />The No. 7 state-ranked Willis Ladykats moved to 7-1 in 18-4A play with a 5-4 victory at Magnolia West Tuesday night.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Sarah Debrow</span> got the victory.<br /><br />The Ladykats scored a run in the first when Katelyn Bates singled, moved to second on an error, was sacrificed by Baylie Wilson and scored on Rachel McCrary’s fielder’s choice.<br /><br />Willis added three in the second when McCrary had a two-RBI double and Chloe Davis an RBI-single after Ambyr Willhoite, Bates and Wilson had all singled.<br /><br />The Ladykats scored their final run in the fifth on Jacie Patrick’s RBI single after <span style="font-weight: bold;">Candace Luna’s</span> double.<br /><br />“We were lucky to get out of there with a win,” Willis coach Stephanie Shelly said. “Magnolia West hit the ball really well. At this point we’ll take any win we can get. We’ve done a great job in the first half of district. We just need to finish.”<br /><br />The high state ranking is the first for Willis.<br /><br />“It’s a great honor,” Shelly said. “We’ve never been there before. Now we’ll find out what we’re made of. We’ll have a target. Everybody will be gunning for us now. That’s fine. We need to step up. CONROE<br /><br />The Woodlands Lady Highlanders remain undefeated (8-0) in district play and move to 25-1 over all after defeating Conroe 11-1 Tuesday.<br /><br />Liz Arana led TWHS at the plate with a homerun. Faith Bohack, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Jessica Snyder</span> and Kayla Prater each had one double.<br /><br />Paige McDuffee, tossing a one-hitter, picked up the win on the mound while Meghan Depugh took the loss for Conroe.<br /><br />“We’ve always played real close games with Conroe,” TWHS coach Richard Jorgensen said. “The last game was 2-1 at our place. We just came out hitting the ball really well. The last three games we’ve run-ruled our opponents. All the girls are hitting the ball really well.”<br /><br />The Woodlands will play at Lufkin at 6 p.m. Thursday.<br />________________________________________________________________<br /><br />WILLIS – A new bout of confidence seemed to accompany a new state ranking for the Willis Ladykats as they defeated the No. 25 state-ranked Magnolia Lady Bulldogs Friday night.<br /><br />The No. 7 state-ranked Ladykats, 8-1 in league play, shut out Magnolia 4-0 at home. At their last meeting earlier in district play Magnolia defeated Willis 2-0, giving the Ladykats their only loss thus far in district.<br /><br />“We felt like we had something to prove tonight,” Willis head coach Stephanie Shelly said. “A lot of good things are happening for us and winning tonight was definitely one of our goals.”<br /><br />The Ladykats set the game’s pace in the first inning allowing only four Magnolia batters to hit in the top of the inning and scoring in the bottom off a solo homer by Willis shortstop Rachel McCrary.<br /><br />Winning pitcher <span style="font-weight: bold;">Sarah Debrow</span> put a serious damper on the Magnolia offense, allowing only three hits with nine strikeouts.<br /><br />Magnolia had a chance to put runs on the board in the top of the third after a bunt by Courtney Kuehn followed by a double from Ariel Hovis that put runners in scoring position. However, the last batter was unable to get a clutch hit.<br /><br />While the Lady Bulldogs remained scoreless, the Ladykats’ bats came to life again in the bottom of the third.<br /><br />Right fielder Baylie Wilson started the inning with a single to short and was batted around to second on a sacrifice bunt by McCrary. Chloe Davis muscled a double to center field putting runners on second and third. Catcher <span style="font-weight: bold;">Candace Luna</span> followed suit with a double, plating Wilson and Davis to give Willis a 3-0 lead. A single by Patty Wolfe drove in pinch runner Ambyr Willhoite for what would be the final run scored in the game, giving Willis the 4-0 win.<br /><br />“This was really a team effort.” Shelly said. “We had great pitching, great hitting and great timing. Though they experienced their first District 13-5A loss, 4-3 in nine innings at Klein, the Lady Cougars started 7-0 in league play and were in position to regain their district title.<br /><br />Tomball, which was 14-6 after April 1, was in good form early beating Klein 9-4 at home March 3. The Lady Cougars followed with four consecutive district shutouts, routing Westfield, defending district champion Klein Oak, Klein Forest and Dekaney by a combined 55-0.<br /><br />Tomball recovered from a rough stay at the HSSL Tournament in Missouri City to reel off five straight league wins. She still leads the team in batting average, runs (22), hits (32), triples (4), homers (5), total bases (59) and slugging (.711). Her career average is currently .373 which is two points below Kassie Rezza who holds the school record at .375. Senior catcher Melissa St. Clair is one of the best defensive catchers in the region. She has played nearly every inning of every game behind the plate this year and has only allowed 11 stolen bases while throwing out 45% of attempted stealers. They did a great job, but we got the hits when it mattered.”<br /><br />Magnolia made an impressive move in the bottom of the seventh, but Rochinski had faith in her kids. “I have confidence in the girls. They have strong at bats, and we have to play solid defense.”<br /><br />It was the Lady Bulldogs who first lit the scoreboard however, as <span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">Adair</span> singled to short. Ariel Hovis followed with a nice double to right field, then freshman Reggie Harrison came through with a clutch two RBI double to centerfield to put Magnolia on top 2-0 with the early lead.<br /><br />The score would remain stagnant until the sixth inning when the Montgomery bats came alive. Megan Armistead drew a base on balls to lead off, then Peyton Webb grounded a single to center, moving Armistead to third. Cali Lanphear would walk to load the bases. Bailey Chalmers rifled off an RBI single, and the Lady Bears were off to the races trailing 1-2.<br /><br />Shelby Stone soared off a double, knocking in two more runs to give Montgomery a lead they would not relinquish. Devon Tunning took advantage of a pitching change as Magnolia freshman Kaci Hoskins took over in the circle. Tunning notched another single to put her team on top 4-2.<br /><br />Montgomery wasn’t quite through, as Brittany Clopton tripled to the left wall for another two Lady Bear runs. Consol completed pool play Saturday morning by beating Little Cypress-Mauriceville 9-6, then thumped Henderson 8-0 in the third-place game at Lady Tiger Field.<o:p></o:p></p> <p>Consol went 5-1 in the tournament, raising its season record to 15-2.<o:p></o:p></p> <p>Travis shocked the 11th-ranked Lady Tigers by scoring seven runs in the sixth inning to beat Consol 8-5 in Friday's late game. but is on course to get more playing time this year.<span style=""> </span>She is an awesome defensive infielder with great speed.<span style=""> </span>We have returning Southland Player of the Year feature two MC Elite Gold players.<span style=""> </span>The first is <b style=""><span style="color:red;">Elena Crabtree</span></b>.<span style=""> </span>Elena is from Montgomery, Texas and played one year at <i style=""><span style="color: rgb(0, 176, 80);">Blinn College</span></i>.<span style=""> </span>She was All Conference Pitcher and lead Blinn into the NJCAA playoffs.<span style=""> </span>Elena was the lead pitcher for MC Elite Gold when we earned our first ASA Gold berth.<span style=""> </span>Elena will be expected to provide victories for TAMU CC this season.<span style=""> </span>Also at TAMU CC is senior pitcher <b style=""><span style="color:red;">Morgan Seals</span></b>.<span style=""> </span>Morgan is a lefthander pitcher from Willis, Texas.<span style=""> averages are as a freshman .317, sophomore was .357, and junior was .437.<span style=""> </span>Including in this year’s preseason honor is being named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the </span>She hit .248 and had a .929 fielding percentage.<span style=""> </span>She sat out the 2009 season with a torn ACL injury.<span style=""> </span>Meagan has set her mind on having a great senior style=""><span style="color:red;">Kaleigh Mushinski</span></b> will pitch and contribute to this perennial national power.<span style=""> </span>Kaleigh is a junior from Magnolia, Texas and sister of MC Elite Gold‘s <b style=""><span style="color:red;">Kassi Mushinski</span></b>.<span style=""> </span>In 2009 she had an outstanding 1.05 era in primarily a relief role.<span style=""> </span>She average more than 1 K per inning.<span style=""> </span>As a freshman she was All-ASC East Division Honorable Mention.<span style=""> </span>Also in the American Southwest Conference is <i School’s</span></i> All District 3<sup>rd</sup> played and earned a scholarship to <i style="">Sam Houston University</i>. <span style=""> </span>Cree ultimately made the decision that she didn’t want to play softball in college and concentrate on her academics.<span style=""> </span>Cree is currently enrolled at <span style="color: rgb(192, 80, 77);">Texas State University</span> and enjoying her </span>Lauren played last fall but decided to only play high school softball and concentrate on her studies.<span style=""> </span>Lauren will attend a local college before completing getting her style=""><span style="color: rgb(192, 80, 77);">Tomball High School’s</span></i> preseason softball this fall.<span style=""> </span>She is looking forward to playing her senior year and then entering Hitter Award in the Southland Conference.<span style=""> </span>Kayla has played for MC Elite for three years and she always played outstanding softball.<span style=""> </span>Kayla returns to SFA to School</span></i>.<span style=""> </span>Kelsey had an outstanding summer and should be a renewed asset for UTA.<span style=""> </span>Kelsey made the catch of the year last season in UTA’s victory class="MsoNormal">This is our first entry into the 2010 high school softball season.<span style=""> </span>We will spotlight some of the MC Elite Gold players and their high school teams.<span style=""> </span>We will spotlight some of our college players in a future entry.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><i style="">Magnolia High School</i> (18-4A) features two MC Elite Gold players.<span style=""> </span>Senior Pitcher <b style="">Katy Adair </b>is a returning 18-4A All District performer.<span style=""> </span>Katy has lead her team to the playoffs since she burst on the scene four years ago<b style="">.<span style=""> </span></b>Katy is committed to Galveston College<b style="">.<span style=""> </span></b>Senior <b style="">Kassi Mushinski </b>is a returning 18-4A All District player.<span style=""> </span>She played 2<sup>nd</sup> base last season but has moved to shortstop for this season.<span style=""> </span>Kassi will play college ball at Texas A&M Corpus Christi next year.<span style=""> </span>Magnolia lost six starters from last season but is still expect to be a force in 18-4A this year.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><i style="">Willis High School</i> (18-4A) features three MC Elite Gold players. <span style=""> </span>Junior Pitcher <b style="">Sarah Debrow</b> is a returning 18-4A All District performer.<span style=""> </span><span style=""> </span>Sarah is expected to lead the talented Willis squad into the 2010 playoffs.<span style=""> </span>Senior <b style="">Shelby Stephens </b>was a 1<sup>st</sup> team All District performer at 1<sup>st</sup> base last season.<span style=""> </span>She will bring strength and leadership to this year’s squad.<span style=""> </span>Moving into the catcher’s spot for Willis this year will be senior <b style="">Candace Luna</b>.<span style=""> </span>Candace’s strong bat will be a great asset for Willis.<span style=""> </span>Willis returns almost all the nucleus of last year’s squad.<span style=""> </span>If this team can be consistent, they should make the playoffs.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Junior standout <b style="">Meme Quinn </b>is a returning 1<sup>st</sup> Team District 13-5A from <i style="">Tomball High School</i>.<span style=""> </span><span style=""> </span>Meme was all district outfield and top of the line-up hitter.<span style=""> </span>She may get some pitching time this year also.<span style=""> </span>Meme has speed and utilizes it to its fullest.<span style=""> </span>Tomball High School is a very talented team that only lost one starter from last year’s Area’s Finalist.<span style=""> </span>Tomball recently won the Round Rock High Preseason Tournament which featured 52 teams.<span style=""> </span>Tomball will be state ranked and could be playing at Austin at the state tournament.<span style=""> </span>Meme has verbally committed to play college ball at Sam Houston University.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Team leader <b style="">Sarah Allison</b> returns for her senior year at <i style="">A&M Consolidated High School</i>.<span style=""> </span>Sarah is All District as well as All Brazos Valley in 2009.<span style=""> </span>She alternated between shortstop and catcher last season.<span style=""> </span>Sarah led her team in homeruns with 6 including a .424 batting average.<span style=""> </span>A&M Consol won District 12-5A last year.<span style=""> </span>They lost some players to graduation and move outs but they will still compete for 1<sup>st</sup> place.<span style=""> </span>Sarah has the longest current longevity with MC Elite Gold and is a vital cog in our hopes this summer.<span style=""> </span>Sarah has signed to play softball at Sam Houston University this fall.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><i style="">Bryan High School</i> (12-5A) player <b style="">Jennifer Saxby</b> returns for her senior season.<span style=""> </span>Jennifer was All District 12-5A last season at catcher.<span style=""> </span>Jennifer will spend considerable time at 3<sup>rd</sup> this season as well as provide depth at catcher.<span style=""> </span>Jennifer is also part of the Brazos Valley Academic Team.<span style=""> </span>Bryan made the playoffs last season and should be a force again this year.<span style=""> </span>Maturity from some of the younger players will be the determinate factor.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><i style="">Barbers Hill</i> (21-4A) features returning varsity outfielder <span style=""> </span><b style="">Kelsie Lee</b>.<span style=""> </span>Kelsie provides stability in the outfield and experience at the plate.<span style=""> </span>Kelsie follows a long line of outstanding Barbers Hill players and she is ready to assume that mantle.<span style=""> </span>Barbers Hill won District 21-4A last season and will contend once again.<span style=""> </span>They return a talented squad with an experienced pitcher.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b style="">Hayley Alexander </b>is a 1<sup>st</sup> Team All District Shortstop from 21-4A <i style="">Crosby High School</i>.<span style=""> </span>Crosby contended for 1<sup>st</sup> place until the last week of the season.<span style=""> </span>They upset the talented Montgomery High School team in the playoffs.<span style=""> </span>They lost some talented players but they will still be contenders.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><i style="">Caldwell High School </i><span style=""> </span>junior SS<span style=""> </span><b style="">Hollie Chennault</b> is 1<sup>st</sup> team All District 24-3A and a returning force to her high school program.<span style=""> </span>Hollie was also All Brazos Valley.<span style=""> </span>Hollie batted .389 with four homers, six triples, and 19 runs batted in.<span style=""> </span>Caldwell hopes to return to the 3A playoffs this season.<span style=""> </span>They will certainly rely on Hollie to help their cause.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b style="">Shelbe Sterling</b> is a junior at <i style="">La Grange High School</i>.<span style=""> </span>Shelbe made All District as an outfielder.<span style=""> </span>She will return to the outfield as well as duty at catcher.<span style=""> </span>Shelbe is a right handed power hitter that will be expect to help La Grange return to defend their 25-4A crown.<span style=""> </span>La Grange went deep into last year’s playoff until getting eliminated by eventual 3A State Champion Needville by a 4-3 count. </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b style="">Brittany Medina</b> is a junior All District 14-5A first team infielder for the <i style="">Conroe Tigers</i>.<span style=""> </span>Brittany is a very<span style=""> </span>adept player that can play 3<sup>rd</sup>, SS, and 2<sup>nd</sup> with equal ability.<span style=""> </span>Brittany is MC Elite’s most versatile player.<span style=""> </span>She will help lead her high school back into the playoffs.<span style=""> </span>Conroe made the 15-5A playoffs last year for the first time since the 1993-1994 season.<span style=""> </span>With a little solid pitching Conroe should make the playoffs again this year. </p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b style="">Laura Driskill</b> is a 1<sup>st</sup> Team 15-5A pitcher for <i style="">Cy Fair High School</i>.<span style=""> </span>Laura is a sophomore and leads a very talented Bobcat squad.<span style=""> </span>Cy Fair was a very young team last year.<span style=""> </span>They worked to make the playoffs but made the biggest splash in the playoffs.<span style=""> </span>They eliminated the #1 nationally ranked undefeated Klein Oak
<br />Panthers in a best of three series.<span style=""> </span>Laura was the winning pitcher in both games.<span style=""> </span>Cy Fair was defeated in a single game Regional Semifinal game verses Spring Lions by a 4-3 count.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b style="">Jessica Snyder</b> moves to <i style="">The Woodlands High School</i> starting lineup this spring.<span style=""> </span>Jessica will see duty at 1<sup>st</sup> and 3<sup>rd</sup>.<span style=""> </span>Jessica and a sophomore destined for a great season.<span style=""> </span>The Woodlands seek to defend their 14-5A Championship.<span style=""> </span>They have depth and experience in a relatively young club.<span style=""> </span>They received a nice gift with the move in of LSU commit Paige McDuffee.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">We will spotlight these and other fine players during the coming high school season.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Next entry will feature college players.<span style=""> </span>It will probably be a two part feature.</p> MC Elite Goldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07112466114166138318noreply@blogger.com0
